Imo hoodlums attack school, stop students from taking WASSCE

Chidiebube Okeoma, Owerri

Gunmen on Monday stopped students at the Comprehensive Secondary School, Nkume, in the Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, from taking the English Language paper in the ongoing West African Secondary School Certificate Examinations.

Sources disclosed that the students were preparing to begin the exam when the attackers struck and chased them away.

While the gunmen shot, students and teachers, including their supervisors, fled.

An indigene of the community told PUNCH Metro that the gunmen set ablaze some motorcycles belonging to some of the staff and students of the school.

Although there were no reports of casualties, a viral video of the incident showed the students and staff shouting and running for their lives.

The source said, β€œGunmen came to the school and chased out the students this morning (Monday). They shot repeatedly and insisted that no examination would be allowed to go on. They destroyed some motorcycles and shot until the students and teachers ran away.”

A spokesperson for the state police command, Mike Abattam, confirmed the attack, adding that operatives had taken over the area and were hunting the attackers.
